CAIRO - 1 June 2019: A high turnout has been witnessed at mosques across Cairo Friday night, where prayers seek observing Laylat al-Qadr (the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad).
Muslims believe there are prolific mercy and blessings on Laylat al-Qadr (translates to Night of Decree); it is one of the odd-numbered nights during the last 10 days in the Holy month of Ramadan, with many scholars suggesting it falls on the 27th of the month. In Quran, Laylat al-Qadr is described as "Better than 1000 months."
Mosques are crowded during the holy month of Ramadan where Muslims head to perform Tarawih (additional prayers performed by Muslims at night after the Isha prayer), and Tahajjud (a voluntary night prayer).
