CAIRO – 29 May 2019: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri received a phone call from his American counterpart Mike Pompeo where they discussed the developments in the region especially the situation in Libya and the Gulf, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

This comes within the framework of ongoing consultations between the two countries. The two sides also discussed ways to enhance the Egyptian-American relations and strengthen cooperation at all levels during the coming period.

The two ministers stressed the importance of continuing consultation and coordination on various topics and regional issues of mutual concern, the spokesperson said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi visited Washington in April, where he held discussions with US President Donald Trump. During the meeting, Sisi asserted the Palestinians' right to establishing a state based on the borders before the 1967 war, with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital.

Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a press statement that the meeting tackled several economic topics, most importantly the trade exchange between Egypt and the United States amid the successful economic reform in Egypt to create a better investment environment.
