CAIRO - 19 May 2019: The speaker of Canada’s Senate, George Furey will visit Egyptian parliament on Sunday, according to a statement issued by the parliament.
The statement reported that the Canadian Senate speaker will meet with the speaker of the House of Representative Ali Abdel Aal, members of the Parliament and a large number of top government officials.
The two sides will discuss a number of issues regarding boosting bilateral cooperation on the legislative level in political, legislative, economic and security terms, in addition to discussing several aspects of relations between Canada and Egypt.
Furey's visit comes after a long period of preparation between Egyptian ambassador to Canada, Ahmed Abu Zeid and some officials from Egypt and Canada, the statement added.
It is worth mentioning, Egyptian ambassador to Canada met on November 2019 with the chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development at the House of Commons of Canada, Michael Levitt within the framework of the Egyptian embassy's contacts with the circles of influence in the political, economic and cultural fields in Canada.
Following the meeting, the Egyptian diplomat said that Levitt expressed his keenness on opening channels of communication with the Egyptian House of Representatives to shore up the Egyptian-Canadian ties in various domains.
The two sides reviewed a flurry of regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as Egypt's vision on these issues, topped by the conditions in the Middle East, efforts to fight terrorism and means to promote peace and stability at the international level.
