CAIRO - 14 May 2019: The National Libyan Army (NLA) announced on Monday foiling an encirclement attempt by the militias near the Yarmouk Camp southern Tripoli and arresting two militants.
On Sunday, the NLA declared that it had launched an air raid targeting militias deployments in Tripoli. The raid gave rise to dozens of casualties and injuries among the militias in Tripoli.
In April, the NLA launched an operation called “Dignity Flood” to liberate Tripoli from the militias. The army captured the city’s airport but later lost control over it.

The UN-brokered dialogue of Ghadames between six conflicting parties in Libya was due to convene mid-April but was postponed due to the ongoing military escalation between the Libyan National Army led by Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar and Libyan troops of the internationally-recognized government led by Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord Fayez al-Sarraj since April 4.
The United Nations, France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Britain, the United States, and Egypt called for halting the escalation in Tripoli. TRIPOLI - 12 April 2019: The Libyan Military Prosecutor on Thursday ordered the arrested of head of the Libyan presidential council Faiz al Sarraj, members of the presidential council and a number of military leaders in the western zone over charges of committing dangerous crimes against the state.
Sarraj affirmed that armed militias including the Muslim Brotherhood, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and Ansar al-Sharia have united against the national army.
He also said the Libyan army does not bomb civilians in Tripoli, but the armed militias do so in order to pressure the international community to charge for a cease of fire under the pretext of protecting civilians.
He pointed out that the national army was seeking to enter Tripoli peacefully to dry the sources of financing armed militias and the liberation of state institutions, criticizing the way the central bank is being managed, which has been allocating large funds of money to the militias.
