Ghanaian speaker lauds historic relations with Egypt

CAIRO – 14 May 2019: Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament Aaron Mike Ocquaye highlighted the historic relations between Egypt and Ghana, affirming his country's keenness to develop these relations in all fields.

During his meeting on Sunday with Egypt's Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Omar Marwan, Ocquaye expressed his country's desire to benefit from the Egyptian expertise to meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples, according to official reports.

During the meeting, Marwan and Ocquaye along with an accompanying delegation discussed means of boosting cooperation between Egypt and Ghana, especially in the parliamentary and legal fields.

Egypt is working to consolidate Egyptian-African relations and enhance cooperation with all African countries, Marwan added.

Marwan also stressed the importance Egypt attaches to its relations with Ghana, explaining Egypt's efforts to open new channels of communication between the two countries in political, economic, parliamentary and legal fields.

Ocquaye also met with Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, where the latter hailed Egypt's firm and deeply-rooted relations with Ghana since their late leaders Gamal Abdel Nasser and Kwame Nkrumah.

Abdel Aal asserted that Ghana is a pivotal state in western Africa, given its splendid political experience.

He expressed Cairo's appreciation for the economic experience of the African country, hoping that the parliaments of both states will promote bilateral relations to service joint interests.

Ocquaye, for his part, hailed Egypt's leading role in Africa, citing its support for the past national liberation movements in the continent.
