Minister: Egypt keen to support brotherly African countries

CAIRO, May 8 (MENA) - Planning Minister Hala el Saeed asserted Egypt’s keenness on offering support to its brotherly African countries within the framework of its presidency of the African Union (AU).

Saeed said the 40th Roundtable Conference which is organized by her ministry in cooperation with the African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) under the theme “Transforming Institutions in Africa for Sustainable Development” is a major step for achieving the sustainable development goals, represented in Africa’s Agenda 2063.

The minister made the remarks at a meeting with AAPAM Secretary General George Scott to discuss preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the 40th AAPAM Roundtable Conference, said a statement released by the ministry on Wednesday.

The conference will tackle several major axes including means of transforming public service institutions to be more accountable, effective and inclusive bodies which are essential for achieving Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Saeed noted.

The role of information and communication technologies as public sector institutions' enablers to achieve sustainable development will also be discussed during the conference in addition to strengthening decentralized institutions to provide enhanced and effective service, Saeed said.

Meanwhile, the AAPAM secretary general lauded the leap that Egypt is currently witnessing in all fields, asserting that Cairo is capable of providing a platform that brings together all African countries.

He also commended Egypt’s great role as the current AU president.
