CAIRO - 6 May 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi greeted the Egyptian expats on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, wishing all people peace and happiness.

According to a Monday statement, Sisi sent his greetings to all embassies and consulates of Egypt abroad.

Earlier, President Sisi and First Lady Intsar al-Sisi greeted Egyptians on the advent of the holy month on their social media pages.

“I greet all Egyptians and each and every family on the holy month of Ramadan, which delights our souls, renews our faith and spreads compassion,” Intsar al-Sisi stated on her official Facebook page.

The month of dawn-to-dusk fasting is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is observed by Muslim communities worldwide as the month of fasting that commemorates the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad.

On Sunday night, Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam announced that Monday, May 6, 2019 will mark the first day of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Allam announcement came after Dar al Iftaa's Sharia and astronomical committees spotted the crescent of Ramadan, the ninth month on the lunar Islamic calendar.

Allam greeted President Sisi, the Egyptian people and Arab and Islamic nations on that great occasion, hoping that security and stability will prevail in Egypt and the world.
