CAIRO, April 8 (MENA) - Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Monday discussed in a meeting with Speaker of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives Aqilah Saleh the latest political and security developments in Libya.
The two sides probed ways to put an end to the Libyan crisis, through going ahead with the democratic transition process, the AL chief's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement.
Abul Gheit, also, called on all Libyan parties to exercise self-restraint in this critical phase and avoid any escalation on the ground, which in turn could help the resumption of dialogue among Libyan factions to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis, the spokesman added.
For his part, the speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives briefed the AL secretary general on the latest updates in the country, expressing his appreciation of Abul Gheit's efforts to preserve Libya's territorial integrity and its national unity, the spokesman noted.
