CAIRO – 8 April 2019: Spokesperson for the Libyan National Army Ahmed al- Mesmary extended his condolences to the Egyptian government on the martyrdom of the police officer who was killed on April 7 after an armed person shot at a police patrol in Al-Nozha district.

During his phone-in on ONE channel, Mesmary pointed out that there is a terrorist media campaign that spread rumors about the Libyan army's war on citizens, adding that the battle of Tripoli comes as part of a comprehensive war on terrorism.

According to a Sunday security statement, a police car driver later died of his wound during the attack.

Officer Maged Abdel Razek was checking the security situation in the streets of Nozha, when he saw a black car with a hand-written car plate carrying four people.

As he approached the car to check it, the driver got out of the car and shot him and his accompanying personnel.

Further details about the identity of the murderers have not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Nabil Ahmed Sadeq ordered opening an investigation into the killing of the police officer and the injury of two soldiers in the shooting attack.

Sadek assigned public prosecutors to head to the scene of the attack and launch necessary investigations, a statement by the prosecutor general's office said.
