CAIRO – 6 June 2017: Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa may arrive in Egypt on Thursday for an official visit as part of the king’s tour of Arab countries, knowledgeable sources said Tuesday.
The sources, who requested anonymity, clarified that the king may arrive in Egypt from Saudi Arabia. King Hamad and President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi may hold a joint summit on bilateral relations between Egypt and Bahrain, and would also discuss issues of common concern.
The Arab Gulf has faced political turmoil in recent days against the backdrop of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The backdrops also include Bahrain's decision to cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, as well as issues concerning the financing of terrorist groups and their threat to national security and the Arab Gulf.
On March 27 the Bahraini king came to Egypt for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries on various economic and political levels.
President Sisi traveled to Bahrain on May 8 for a two-day visit to discuss the latest regional developments.
