CAIRO – 19 March 2019: Egypt honored 32 women across the country and named them 2019 ideal mothers, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in a conference Monday.

The ministry announced Monday the names of Egypt's ideal mothers, including a mother with disability and a mother of a son with special needs from different governorates including: Cairo, Giza, Assyut, North Sinai, New Valley, Qena, Matrouh, Alexandria, Kafr el-Sheikh, Aswan, Fayoum, Red Sea, Qaluybia, Sharqia, Port Said, Gharbiya, Beni Suef, Menoufia, Beheira, Sohag, South Sinai and Suez.

Amira Helal, an honored mother from North Sinai, said that she is a pensioner; she retired from her work as a deputy head of a school in Arish city. She bore the responsibility of bringing up her two children after her husband died of cancer in 2000.

Honoring ideal mothers in Egypt is a tradition that takes place every year to appreciate their role in bringing up their children into good citizens who serve their homeland. The mothers are granted medals in a ceremony marking Mother's Day.

It is said that the ideal mother competition starts in January, where applications are submitted with nominations.

Egypt celebrates Mother's Day on March 21 every year.
