CAIRO – 18 March 2019: Tarek al-Wassimy, Egypt's ambassador in New Zealand, visited the families of the Egyptian expatriates killed in the terrorist attack on two mosques earlier in March, in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Wassimy delivered the condolences of Egypt's President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who earlier condemned the attack, and Foreign Minister SamehShoukri, to the families of the victims. He also stressed Egypt's readiness to transfer their bodies to the homeland immediately.

The ambassador also visited the injured Egyptians in the attack to follow up on their health condition and make sure the required health care is provided to them. He explained that they are currently in good health after they underwent some surgical operations, adding that they left Christchurch hospital.
During the visit, Wassimymet with members of the Egyptian community in Christchurch to check on their condition, support them, and listen to their requests. He also checked the victims of the Arab and Muslim communities injured in the incident.
Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, opened fire at two mosques in New Zealand, while packed with worshippers attending Friday prayers, killing so far 50 people, and injuring 50 others.
The suspected gunman was charged with murder.
Egypt's Immigration Minister Nabila Markam is set to head to New Zealand on Tuesday to visit the 11 Egyptians who were injured in the deadly mass shootings. During the visit, Makram will meet with representatives of the Egyptian community in New Zealand.
On March 16, Egyptian Top Prosecutor Nabil Sadek ordered to open investigations into the terror attack that resulted in the killing of dozens of worshipers, including six Egyptians.
President Sisi said that this "brutal attack which targeted worshipers" forces the international community to counter terrorism and exert more efforts to confront violence decisively.
