Sisi meets Ibn Auf, affirms full support of Sudan's stability

CAIRO - 13 March 2019: Egypt's President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stressed the country's keenness to continue boosting bilateral cooperation with Sudan at various levels, in light of the historical ties and special relations between the two brotherly countries, said presidential spokesman Bassam Radi.

During his meeting on Tuesday with Sudan's Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf, who also serves as first vice president, Sisi affirmed Egypt's full support of Sudan's security and stability, considering it as an extension of the Egyptian national security.

The Cairo meeting was also attended by Head of Sudan's National Intelligence and Security Services Salah Gosh, and Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Abdel Mahmoud Abdel Halim, in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, and Egypt's Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.


Sisi, during the meeting, congratulated Ibn Auf for assuming his new post as Sudan's first vice president, saying that it reflects a belief in his capabilities and his vision on achieving stability, development and prosperity for the Sudanese people.

The Sudanese presidency named Ibn Auf as first vice president and governor of Gezira state Mohamed Tahir Ayala, as prime minister, on February 23, 2019.

For his part, Awad bin Auf conveyed to President Sisi the greetings of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. He also condoled Sisi on behalf of Sudan's government and people following the deadly railway blaze that took place in February in Cairo's Ramses Railway Station, killing 20 people according to the official toll.

Ibn Auf praised the efforts made to enhance mutual cooperation between Egypt and Sudan, especially through intensifying official visits between the political leadership and senior officials of both countries.

He also praised Egypt's unlimited support for maintaining the safety and stability of Sudan, according to Egypt's presidency spokesman, expressing his country's aspiration to take advantage of the leading role Egypt plays in the region, and its inspirational development experience.

The meeting discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels, the importance of completing the electricity interconnection project between the two countries, and the need to finish the studies concerning promoting railway connecting lines between Egypt and Sudan.
