CAIRO – 11 March 2019: Lieutant General Kamel el-Wazir took on Monday the constitutional oath as the new transport minister succeeding Hisham Arafat who resigned after the deadly Ramsis train crash that occurred last month.
Wazir was sworn in on Monday before President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi who directed in a closed meeting to exert maximum effort to comprehensively develop railway system, given the importance of this sector and its direct effect on the daily lives of the citizens.

In a presidential statement, spokesperson Bassam Radi said that President Sisi stressed on taking all necessary measures and procedures to enforce and develop safety principles at the railway system.
According to the statement, the plan is to depend on modern electronic systems, and to renovate the national road network across the republic.
Kamel el-Wazir was promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General during a celebration held Sunday marking the Martyr 's Day. Sisi also announced appointing Wazir as the new minister of transportation.
The decision was approved by the Parliament in a plenary session on Sunday. Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker was temporarily acting as minister of transport.
