CAIRO – 9 March 2019: The North Cairo Court renewed on Saturday the detention of five defendants accused in the deadly Ramses train crash by 15 days pending investigations.

On March 1 2019, Prosecutor-general Nabil Sadeq ordered the arrest of the driver of the deadly locomotive that crashed at Cairo main railway station on Wednesday for four days pending investigation.

Investigation revealed that the driver left the locomotive with its engine on to check another locomotive in the opposite direction that rammed into it and stuck with it.

The arrest warrant included six individuals, including drivers of both trains, their assistants and the rail workers on the accusation of manslaughter and vandalism.

Around 23 people were announced killed and more than 40 others were injured when a train locomotive collided into the buffer stop at platform number six, causing a huge explosion.
