CAIRO – 5 June 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a political consultation with his Algerian counterpart Abdel Kader Messahel, according to a statement released by the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zaid on Monday.
The meeting was part of Shoukry’s schedule as he participates in the tripartite meeting on Libya.
At the beginning of the meeting, Shoukry congratulated his Algerian counterpart assuming a new position in the new government formation. He expressed Egypt's aspiration for further bilateral coordination and consultation.
According to the statement, the Algerian minister confirmed Algeria was keen to hold this joint committee before the end of the year.
The Algerian minister expressed his country's aspiration to continue working to strengthen bilateral relations as well as the revival of political consultation between the two foreign ministers.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the Libyan crisis, as well as the results of their contacts with the various Libyan parties and they agreed that the Skhirat agreement was the only solution to the current crisis in Libya.
The Skhirat Agreement is Libya’s political agreement, signed on December 17th 2015 in Skhirat, Morocco. It is the basis for resolving the internal conflict between the various warring factions in Libya.
