CAIRO - 3 March 2019: Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Sunday one defendant to death and four others to life imprisonment in the "October terrorist cell" case.
This is the final verdict as the previous sentence was challenged by the defendants.
The Court of Cassation accepted a challenge by seven defendants into verdicts handed down against them by Giza Criminal Court, ordering a retrial.
Five men were sentenced to death in September 2014, while two others received life sentences over involvement in killing a policeman in an attack on the Virgin Mary Church in 6th of October City in January of that year.
They were convicted for "establishing and operating a terrorist group that seeks to change the state rule by force and assault police and army personnel.
