FM urges increasing UN organizations’ presence in Egypt

CAIRO – 5 June 2017: Egypt seeks to increase the presence of the United Nations (UN) organizations, agencies and regional offices on its territories, said Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Relations and International Security, Ambassador Hesham Badr, on Sunday.

Badr held a meeting with all the representatives of the UN organizations and agencies working in Egypt, in the presence of Richard Dictus, the resident coordinator of the UN in Egypt, according to Almasry Alyoum.

Ambassador Magdy Radi, assistant foreign minister for international economic relations; and Ambassador Said Hendam, assistant foreign minister for international cooperation also attended the meeting.

Badr praised the efforts exerted by the UN organizations in Egypt, expressing Cairo's desire to increase their presence in the country, especially after the launch of the new Administrative Capital that will provide a good place for the UN representatives to work efficiently.

He pointed out that Egypt’s sustainable development strategy for 2030 includes eliminating poverty, creating jobs, rationalizing energy use, empowering women and youth and improving the educational and health conditions of citizens in general, stressing that the UN organizations and agencies’ plans in Egypt should support the national efforts in this regard.
