CAIRO – 5 June 2017: Egyptian media organizations should create an independent entity to measure the viewing figures and attitudes of viewers, National Media Authority member Gamal Enaiet said in an interview on Sunday.
Enaiet said that a number of satellite channels and companies have filed complaints against Ipsos, the French market and public opinion research company, to the Authority of Protection of Competition and Monopolistic Practices Prevention and the parliamentary Media and Culture Committee.
Grievant companies accused Ipsos of misleading public opinion by manipulating viewership rates and demanded that the authorities transfer the complaint to the public prosecution.
“We need to know the rules that Ipsos use to measure the viewership rates, especially those concerning the Egyptian media” Enaiet added.
