CAIRO – 4 June 2017: A birth control draft law which would subsidize a family’s first three children was submitted to Parliament Sunday by Parliamentarian Ghada al-Agamy.
According to the regulations of the draft law, articles no. 1 and no. 2 included the definitions of birth control, governmental subsidy and family, and stipulated that only the first three children of a family shall be entitled of the aforementioned subsidy, whereas the fourth child and any subsequent children shall not be entitled to the said subsidy on the educational, social, medical or economical level.
In this context, and according to article no. 4, children who are born outside Egypt to Egyptian parents and holders of dual nationalities will not be entitled of the governmental subsidy in any of its forms.
Upon approval, the law will be published at the official gazette within eight months and will be effective, non-renewable, for 10 years, as per articles no. 9 and 10.
According to Agamy, 200 representatives signed in approval of the new draft law.
