Sisi, Tusk praise fruitful discussions in LAS-EU summit press conference

CAIRO – 25 February 2019: “The Summit is historical, not just because it is the first of its kind, but also because of the fruitful discussions that cover a wide array of topics and issues that have been discussed,” said Sisi.

Cooperation between the Arab League countries and the countries of the European Union are vital to progress on some of the most important topics that are of mutual interest, explained Sisi.

“It has been our pleasure to provide the platform on which this summit and discussions took place,” Sisi stated, explaining that this was a vital move forward and that enhancement of cooperative channels need to take place.

Building on this, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, said, it is time for us to work towards a closer relationship and to work together towards more positive results.

“As neighbours, we have no other option but to work together,” said Tusk, adding that global issues are important and represent threats that need to faces together.

“Trade, security and climate change are amongst the two most important things for us to cooperate on,” stated Tusk. Although the three things that need cooperation are trade, security and climate change, it is vital to work on other things as well, like those that have been mentioned, to move forward.

“We want to build joint programs that will attract investments,” said Tusk, adding that it is a joint goal to work towards counter-terrorism efforts and to stop irregular migration, as well as human trafficking.

“This summit, albeit a great one, is simply the first step to many to come,” said Tusk.
