CAIRO - 25 February 2019: A number of media agencies shed light Monday on the first League of Arab States-European Union summit, held under the title "Investing in Stability"which started Sunday Feb. 24 in SahrmEl-Shiekh.
Italian media agency, Ava Italiano, reported that the summit is seen as a great opportunity to strengthen cooperation in the Mediterranean region and to reach solutions to several issues, including immigration and combating terrorism, crises in Syria and Libya and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, also it describing the summit as a "historic".
In Bild's article "Merkel meets world leaders in Sharm El-Sheikh", the German newspaper said that the Europeans seek to send a signal to the United States, Russia and China that they simply do not leave the south-eastern neighborhood, the closest neighbor to Europe, for the sake of the major powers' economic and political interests.
Also, Der Tagesspiegel newspaper published a report on the summit, under the title"Europeans and Arabs are fighting together for closer cooperation". The newspaper reported that the summit brings together nearly 30 EU countries and 20 Arab countries, lauding the efforts exerted by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and the Egyptian government to ensure that refugees do not travel from their country to Europe through Mediterranean routes.
All the newspapers highlighted excerpts from Sisi's speech, in which he called for working together to combat terrorism.
In the same context, Kuwait's Al-Anba highlighted President Sisi's call to unite against the scourge of terrorism.President Sisi stressed that terrorism has become rampant in the world, whether through the cross border movement of terrorists, through facilitating their access to funding and support under the guise of dubious NGOs, or through using mass media outlets and social media platforms to recruit new elements and to incitement violence and hatred.
Furthermore, Al-Jarida newspaper underlined President Sisi's call for boosting Arab-European cooperation to counter terrorism, protect human rights and resolve regional conundrums, notably the Palestinian problem.
Al-Qabas newspaper pointed out President Sisi's appeal for further cooperation and coordination at the international level to combat global terrorism, as well as his call for cementing Arab-European cooperation to curb the flux of illegal migrants, especially in light of the grim picture of the situation in the region.
