CAIRO – 4 June 2017: Review of an appeal filed by former president Mohamed Morsi against his prison sentence in the case publicly known as the ‘Qatar espionage case’ was postponed Saturday by the Court of Cassation to September 16.
Morsi and 10 other defendants in the same case challenged the ruling issued by the Criminal Court, which sentenced him to 40 years in prison.
In 2016, the Criminal Court sentenced three defendants to death in the same case. It ruled that the ousted president and his assistant each serve 40 years in prison and sentenced Morsi’s office manager to life in prison and the rest of the defendants to 15 years in prison.
