CAIRO – 3 June 2017: Egypt’s heaviest woman Iman Ahmed Abdel-Ati (36) has lost between 20 and 30 kg since she arrived to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said Yassin El Shahat, chief medical officer at Abu Dhabi Hospital in a phone-in on LTC TV Saturday.

Shahat stated that Abdel-Ati arrived from India in a very bad condition, suffering from severe infections and other health issues.

The results of the first phase of treatment will be announced in a press conference soon, said Shahat, adding that this phase consists of dealing with the complications and the bad psychological state she suffered from, coming from India.

The second phase will focus on weight loss, and will last for almost a year, he added.

Abdel-Ati was considered the fattest woman in the world earlier this year, weighing around 500 kg. On February 11, she was flown to India to treat her life-threatening case of obesity, which has since attracted public attention and empathy worldwide.

She reportedly lost half of her weight with the help of Indian doctors, until her sister accused the doctors of using the case for media propaganda, raising a conflict about the treatment.
