CAIRO - 10 January 2018:The inauguration of Al-Fattah al-Aleem Mosque and the Nativity Cathedral in the New Administrative Capital under the patronage of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on January 6 took the international scene by storm.
US President Donald Trump expressed his excitement to witness such a great achievement.In a tweet, Trump lauded the leading role of Sisi to build a more inclusive society.
The American Associated Press described the inauguration of the cathedral and mosque as a symbolic initiative fighting the futile attempts to divide the unity of Egypt.
“The inauguration of Al-Fattah al-Aleem Mosque and the Nativity Cathedral is a great response to all rumors and reports of discrimination on Egypt. We are all united to face terrorism,” Priest David, the bishop of the Coptic Church in New York said.
The Italian press also described the inauguration as a glorious day of National Unity, stressing that for the first time in the Egyptian history, a mosque and a cathedral are inaugurated at the same time, which is a victory for humanity.
Furthermore, the Italian newspaper Tiscali stated, “Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inaugurated a new Coptic cathedral and one of the largest mosques in the region, which is considered a slap on the face of terrorism and sectarian violence.”
“This is a historic and important moment, but we still have to protect the tree of love that we have planted here today because sedition never stops," Tiscali added.
Additionally,the Italian newspaper Business Insider stated, “Sisi defends Christians against all extremists who attempt to belittle national unity and stability. The inauguration of the church and mosque should be added to Sisi’s achievements.”
“This is a historical day in Egypt and the whole region to inaugurate the biggest cathedral and mosque in the Middle East and Africa,” Bassam Radi, presidency’s spokesman said.
Moreover, Palestinian Ambassador in Kuwait Ramy Tahtoub stated, "The inauguration of the cathedral and mosque is a strong message to extremism forces that they will never succeed in their destructive attempts. It is a call for tolerance and co-existence."
Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said, “The inauguration of the cathedral and mosque will be an unforgettable moment in the Egyptian history. We send a message to the whole world: Egypt is safe and stable. Egypt witnessed the birth of all religions. We live in harmony.”
Emirati Minister of State for the Federal National Council and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash said in a tweet, “The historic symbolism of inaugurating a cathedral and a mosque is so remarkable. It reflects the insistence, awareness and unity of the Egyptian people: Muslims and Christians.”
It is worth mentioning that the inauguration was attended by thegrand sheikh of al-Azhar and Palestinian leader Abu Mazenas well asvarious representatives of the Arab world.
