CAIRO – 1 June 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed updates in the Libyan case during a Thursday meeting with NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), Gen. Denis Mercier in Cairo. They also discussed ways of boosting relations between Egypt and NATO, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

“The meeting tackled aspects of cooperation between Egypt and NATO, including fighting terrorism, in addition to regional issues and crises,” Abu Zeid said in an official statement released Thursday.

Shoukry asserted Egypt’s aspiration to boost cooperation with NATO, as with the issue of demining the Western Desert and adjusting the borders.

Gen. Mercier expressed his appreciation for the balanced role Egypt plays in the region, which aims at restoring security and stability, especially in Libya.
