CAIRO - 18 December 2018: Security personnel at the Egyptian Pharmacist Syndicate were arrested for assaulting four journalists and detaining others.
The Public Prosecution listened to the attacked journalists and several eyewitnesses and urged the security services of Cairo Security Directorate to expedite the investigations.
Security personnel at the Egyptian Pharmacist Syndicate assaulted four journalists and took their phones, including Mohamed el-Garnoussi and Atef Badr from Al-Masry al-Yom, Esraa Soliman from Al-Watan and Aya Dabes from Youm7.
Meanwhile, the Press Syndicate denounced the assault and detention of the journalists while covering the elections at the syndicate, referring that the attack was carried out by the security guard of Head of the Pharmacist Syndicate Mohai Obeid.
In its statement, the Press Syndicate referred that those who caused injuries to the journalists, destroyed the surveillance cameras and stole the journalists' phones will be held accountable.
The syndicate expressed its solidarity with the journalists, and will review during its upcoming meeting the legal measures that will be taken concerning the incident.
