Attorney general refers Zoo's warehouse manager to investigation

CAIRO - 9 December 2018: Attorney General Nabil Sadeq referred on Saturday Dec. 8 the warehouse manager of the zoo to criminal prosecution for embezzling animal skins worth LE 1.5 million.

The investigations revealed that the defendant has been selling the skin sat auction since taking office in 2015.

It is worth mentioning, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met on November 2018,with Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority Sherif Seif El-Dinto discuss the national anti-corruption strategy in preparation for its launch, stated presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi.

The Egyptian leadership realizes that corruption can cause deviation of authority, provide an opportunity for organized crimes to occur, and can lead to inequity among citizens and mistrust of government. Thus, the country is committed to taking positive steps to promote transparency and establish a sound anti corruption framework.

These positive steps include ratifying the 2005 U.N. convention against Corruption (UNDAC) and the U.N. convention against Transitional Organized Crime (UNTOC). In addition, Egypt became a state party in the Arab League pan-Arab anti-corruption instruments, the Arab Convention to Fight Corruption in 2014.

Egypt has also implemented institutional reforms and deepened its partnerships with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) on anti-corruption and anti-money laundering. Cooperation efforts with the EU and UN include providing technical and institutional support, and training prosecutors to fight corruption.
