CAIRO – 30 May 2017: Newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron telephoned his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on Wednesday to offer his heartfelt condolences after the terror attack which targeted a bus carrying a number of Christians in Minya governorate last Friday.

During the call, Macron expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured, condemning the attack which resulted in 28 dead. He emphasized the full support of his country's government and people to Egypt in combating terrorism.

Sisi expressed his appreciation for Macron's condolences, noting that this reflects the friendly relations binding the two countries.

He asserted that the Minya attack revealed the necessity of intensifying international efforts aiming at combating terrorism, pointing out that Egypt will not fail to defend its territories and people against any attack.

Both leaders agreed upon exchanging coordination and consultations during the next juncture regarding the regional and international files of mutual concern, such as Libya’s condition.

Sisi and Macron also discussed means of advancing the political process in Libya which aims to restore stability in the country as well as maintaining its unity and safety.
