Bari Port president praises New Suez Canal

CAIRO – 5 December 2018: President of Bari Port,UgoPatroni, praised Egypt’s ability to enlarge the capacity of the Suez Canal and its economic zone in just two years, saying that Italy should follow Egypt's lead, La gazzetta del Mezzogiorno reported.

Patroni said that his country must execute the development project of the port, and link it to the industrial zone by railway within the same period as Egypt, referring to the New Suez Canal and Sczone.

The plan for Bari port aims at facilitating transportation from and to the port located southeastern Italy, which can totally transform the area’s economy, and attract large ships. Patroni said that should be coupled with saving time by 30-40 percent - like the case of New Suez Canal - while abiding by European regulations. The plan also includes turning Bari port into a free zone.
