CAIRO, Dec 5 (MENA) - Two living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) operations were carried out simultaneously for the first time in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.
One surgical team carried out the operations at Ain Shams Hospital, the hospital's director Ali Alanwar said in statements to MENA on Wednesday.
The first patient was 48 years old and was suffering from Hepatitis Virus C and liver tumor and his 40-year-old sister donated parts of her liver for him, he added.
The second patient was 63 years old and his 37-year-old son donated parts of his liver for him, he said.
The efforts fall within the framework of the presidential initiative to get rid of patients' waiting lists.
