CAIRO – 30 May 2017: Twitter users of the Gulf States have launched a barrage of criticism against Qatar following the latest remarks stated by Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani against Egypt and other Gulf leaders.
A week ago, the Qatari news agency has published a statement “allegedly” stated by Tamim, saying in a message directed to four Arab countries (Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain) that “being hostile to Iran is unwise.”
He also said that Qatar has warm relations with Israel, alleging that Hamas is the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, asserting that Iran is part of the Islamic world, and has heavy political weight in the region.
Twitter users created a trending hashtag #قطر_تسيء_للملك_سلمان, (Qatar insults King Salman), recoding more than 104,000 tweets.
“Dogs barks while caravan is going ahead,” @swlm050 tweeted.
Social media users also re-posted and shared old stories revealing that Qatar is the true financial resource for terrorism.
@Demiraty posted a tweet accusing Qatar of backing the Muslim Brotherhood members in the UAE, saying “Qatar’s rudeness reached a level of promoting one of the opponents of Emirati regime right now; so we knew now that who is backing Ghanem al-Dosoki.”
@LinaAlhazmy posted a tweet which includes the promises of the Qatari announced foreign policy, which have been broken.
They also posted a story wrote by former AlJazeera journalist, Mohamed Fahmy in Toronto Star, saying that Qatar protects the “financiers of Al-Qaeda, Daesh, Al-Nusra Front, Taliban, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and other groups designated as terrorists by many countries and the United Nations.”
Although Qatari officials denied Tamim’s remarks, claiming that the official website of the new agency was hacked, Gulf countries dealt with these remarks as true given by the young Emir.
Descendants of Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdel-Wahab, Al El-Sheikh disowned the pedigree of Qatar’s ruling family, Al Thani, announcing that the 200 descendants in Saudi Arabia are the only lineage of the 18th century cleric, in an official statement released on Sunday.
Tamim’s alleged remarks came following the American-Arab-Islamic summit, which was held in Riyadh among Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and U.S. President Donald Trump, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The four leaders announced their integrated efforts to fight terrorism in the region and the world, agreeing on confronting the growing Iranian threat in the Middle East; they inaugurated “Aa’tidal” (moderation) center to monitor and combat extremism.
