CAIRO - 25 November 2018: In light of the Egyptian president's sponsorship of the Information Technology sector, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi attended the inauguration of the 22nd round of the Cairo International Exhibition and Conference on Telecommunication and Information Technology (ICT 2018).
Under the slogan "Driving Transformation", Cairo ICT 2018, will be held from November 25 to 28 under the auspices of President Sisi for the fifth year in a row.
The president's support of the ICT sector in Egypt comes as part of the state's plans that aim at improving citizens' lives by using the latest technology systems to advance the efficiency of government services, including education, health, transport and other sectors.
The "digital transformation" is on the agenda of the exhibition, especially in light of the government's keenness to mechanize services and facilitate citizens' access to these services.
The organizer of the Cairo ICT 2018 revealed that three conferences on digital transformation, transportation technology and education will be hosted for the first time on the sidelines of the ICT 2018.

Digital transformation
Entitled "dot-gov MEA", the summit of governments for digital transformation will be held with the participation of several African countries. It is set to include extensive discussion sessions on the future of governments in the Middle East and Africa following the implementation of digital transformation and the development of the public sector in Egypt within the framework of Egypt's national 2030 Plan.
African countries participating in the conference include Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Kenya.
Practical advice will also be given to implement the concept of "smart government" to encourage citizens to communicate with the government electronically and also encourage governments to create interactive platforms to provide services. The platforms will also enable the government to speak with industry experts to get more opportunities for investments into digital transformation.

Transportation technology
The Smart Transportation Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa, named "Trans MEA 2018", will address several topics related to the digital development of the infrastructure of transportation means and roads, based on Artificial Intelligence.
The conference will also include talks on ways to automate public and private transport systems, support electronic payments, and maintain passenger safety depending on technology.
The Cairo ICT's official website said that the Trans MEA 2018 will tackle transport transformation in several fields including:
- How user-centered mobility services put travelers in control; public transport will become personal.
- How intelligent transport networks sense demand, measure performance, and monitor physical assets.
- The revolution in pricing and payment in the coming years (Digitization of tickets) and adopting e-tickets.
- Automation and safety using cognitive technology to save millions of lives on the roads and railways.
- The role of the public sector in stimulating advances and protecting citizens, and the role of private sector in new business models.
- Adopting the digital-rail infrastructure ecosystem.
- Envisioning digital multimodal networks.
- Shaping the digital rail supply chain and adopting the digital-rail infrastructure ecosystem: smart cities, smart travel, smart life.
- Envisioning a digital multimodal network: coordinated, integrated, streamlined and safe.
- Achieving network optimization and shaping the digital rail supply chain.

Education fair
The Learning Technology Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa "LEARN-TECH MEA" will address the development of the education system based on advanced technological solutions such as Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing.
According to the ICT's official website, the LEARN-TECH MEA aims to make education "more relevant in the dynamic 21st century," saying that it will gather governments, academics, educational corporates and institutions.
The ICT sector has recently regained its place on the global map. Data, reports and international ratings have indicated Egypt's strong return as an attractive destination for investment and a leader in outsourcing, IT and cross-border services.
A recent report by Gartner said Egypt, Russia Alba, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Russia and South Africa are the best venues that offer outsourcing services.
The report touched upon advantages of Egypt in providing cross-border services, given its high-skilled workers and competitive prices, not to mention its strategic geographical location.
Egypt has a strong communications infrastructure, the report said, adding that it has 17 maritime cables connecting it with the rest of the world.
