CAIRO - 19 November 2018: The number of people under the age of 18 in Egypt reached 38.9 million in 2018, making up 40.1 percent of total population, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Monday.

There are 20.1 million boys in Egypt, representing 51.7 percent of the child population, and 18.8 million girls, accounting for 48.3 percent.

The largest group is of those who are four years old and under, accounting for 33.98 percent of children, while the smallest group is of the 15-17 year old, which makes up 14.52 percent of children.

Enrollment in kindergarten in the 2017/18 school year was almost equal between both genders, with 27.7 percent of males and 27.8 percent of females aged four to five years old.

Enrollment in primary education was at a far higher rate for both genders, with 95.4 percent of six to 11 year old females enrolled in school, and 93.2 percent of males.

In preparatory education, 85.3 percent of females were enrolled, along with 79.9 percent of males.
