CAIRO - 15 November 2018: Premier and Housing Minister Moustafa Madboli checked on Thursday on work progress in the second phase of stage II of implementing the sewage treatment plant in El Gabal El Asfar in preparation for its official inauguration soon.
During an inspection tour of the site, Madboli said that the project serves more than half of Cairo's residents, adding that the dry run has been finalized.
The project is to generate electrical energy that amounts to 60% of the total energy needed to operate equipment in the plant via using biogas produced from treating the sewage water, the premier also said.
Accompanied by Qalubiya Governor Alaa Abdel Halim, Madboli was expounded about the ongoing work at the place.
Deputy Housing Minister Randa el Minshawy said that modern electro-mechanical equipment in the field of sewage water purification have been installed in the project.
The objective of the project is to increase the capacity of wastewater treatment of El Gabal El Asfar Wastewater Treatment Plant in the north east of greater Cairo, the center of the population in Egypt, and appropriately keep up with the increasing of wasetewater flow through population growth, thereby contributing to improving the environment of water and sanitation in the greater Cairo.
