CAIRO – 30 October 2018: Alaa Sabet, a member of the Egyptian community in Germany, was beaten by a Muslim Brotherhood member while organizing a gathering to welcome President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
President Sisi arrived in Berlin on Sunday, Oct. 28 on a four-day visit to participate in the G20 Compact with Africa summit uponan invitation from German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In an interview with "al-hayah al-youm" TV program, Sabet, who is also the head of the Egyptian Family House, said that a number of members of the Muslim Brotherhoodharassed the Egyptian community members during numerous gatherings to welcome Sisi, adding that an MB member deliberately hit him with a banner on the face.
Sabet said that the German police intervened, adding that the assault shows “the real face of the terrorist Brotherhood in Europe.” The Muslim Brotherhood has been designated by the Egyptian state as a terrorist organization following the 2013 political incidents.
Sabet stated that the Muslim Brotherhood members “try to prove to Europe that they are peaceful. However, they are people who [use] violencewith Egyptians.”
Sabet published pictures on Facebook showing wounds on his face, saying: “a clash took place between me and a terrorist Brotherhood [member]. Long Live Egypt…”
The International Union of Egyptian Citizens Abroad condemned Monday the attack on Sabet, saying that it reflects the ugly face of the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe, adding that it asserts to authorities in Germany and other European countries that the MB's approach is violent.
