Egypt, Russia to hold 2+2 talks on regional crises

CAIRO – 28 May 2017: The Egyptian and Russian stances on Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq will be discussed between the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries in Cairo Monday.

The meeting will be the third in the form of the 2+2 strategic talks of the two states between their foreign and defense ministers after Russia added Egypt to the five countries with which it holds such talks in November 2013, according to a Sunday statement by Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov will tackle means to boost bilateral relations politically, economically, culturally and on the level of Tourism.

The recent terrorist attacks in Egypt and the European countries will also be discussed. The statement noted that Egypt is the only Arab state with which Russia holds the 2+2 talks, in addition to the U.S., France, Italy, the UK and Japan.
