WASHINGTON – 29 October 2018: The U.S. State Department expressed concern on Sunday over a political crisis in Sri Lanka, urged all sides for refrain from violence and called on the country's president to immediately reconvene parliament.

The crisis in Sri Lanka took a deadly turn on Sunday, with one person killed when a sacked Cabinet minister tried to re-enter his office, days after President Maithripala Sirisena removed the prime minister and installed a powerful ally of China in his place. On Saturday, Sirisena suspended parliament until Nov. 16.
