CAIRO - 27 August 2018: The armed forces foiled a smuggling attempt on the western borders on Oct.27. The operation is the outcome of a joint cooperation between the Egyptian Border Guard and the Western Military Region, Military Spokesperson Tamer al-Refai announced.
The forces seized two 4x4 cars carrying three machine guns, a sniper shotgun, five gun magazines, and 115 bullets of different types. That is in addition to one million illegal drug pills, a ton of hash, and a satellite phone.
The operation is part of the efforts deployed by the Egyptian Border Guard to combat smuggling, illegal migration, and the infiltration of terrorists.
On Oct.8, the General Command of the Egyptian Armed Forces issued the 28th statement of the "Comprehensive Military Operation Sinai 2018" on the newly-achieved progress in the forces’ ongoing battle against terrorist and extremist groups active in Northern Sinai.
Seven hideouts of the terrorist groups were targeted by the Egyptian Air Forces,according to the statement and 26 'takfiris' were killed. Two four-wheel cars were destroyed and 26 cars as well as 52 motorcycles were seized by the forces.
The operation foiled a terrorist plan to target a number of military checkpoints in North Sinai, according to the statement.
