CAIRO - 15 October 2018: An Italian national who killed an Egyptian engineer in Hurghada in August 2017 was sentenced to three years in prison Monday in absentia by the Red Sea Criminal Court.

Leonardis Ivan, as named in the case file, killed Tarek al-Hennawy in the famous resort of Hurghada, Marsa Alam, by striking him fatally in the face after the engineer refused giving him access to an under-construction marina. Hennawy, who was responsible for the development, had a heart condition.

The Italian tourist, identified in 2017 press reports as Ivan Pascal Moro, was detained for four days at the time, but was released on bail of LE 100,000 ($5,580).
