CAIRO – 27 May 2017: The Parliament will vote on May 29 on the anti-cheating and breach of examinations draft law submitted by the government, according to El-watan news website.
This comes with the beginning of “Thanaweya Amma” (Egyptian secondary education) exams for the academic year 2016/2017, scheduled to begin on June 4.
According to the law, violators who reveal, publish or print exam questions or answers before or during exam sessions face a sentence between two and seven years in prison, and a fine not less than LE 100,000 ($5,500) and not more than LE 200, 000 ($11,000).
The draft law prohibits cheating students from performing the exam and retaking it in the same year, and fails in all the subjects.
The law also penalizes every student who keeps a mobile phone or any wireless device that can be used for cheating. Cheaters will pay a fine of not less than LE 5,000 ($275) and not more than LE 10,000 ($550). Devices will also be confiscated.
