CAIRO – 27 May 2017: The Egyptian air forces resumed military airstrikes on terrorists outside Egypt in the second day following the Minya terrorist attack in which 29 people were killed on Friday, said Egypt’s state-owned TV on Saturday.
The Egyptian air forces, in cooperation with the Libyan armed forces, launched six intensive airstrikes on terrorists in Libya’s Derna, eastern Libya, after it confirmed that the terrorists were involved in committing the attack.
Twenty-nine people were killed and at least 25 others injured after unknown gunmen opened fire at the bus, which was carrying more than 40 Coptic Christians, on Friday along Western Desert Road in Minya.
Egyptian Military spokesperson Tamer al-Refai announced that the airstrikes have completely destroyed the terrorists’ camps in Derna.
Terrorists targeted in Derna suffered severe losses on both ammunition and casualties, Libyan air forces announced Friday in their press statements.
The Friday airstrike campaign is the second announced military operation carried out by the Egyptian air forces against the terrorists inside Libya.
On Feb. 16, 2015, the Egyptian armed forces launched airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS) group’s camps in Libya following mass execution of 21 Egyptian Christians who were kidnapped in January 2015 by IS militants.
