NEW YORK - 2 October 2018: Head of the Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II called on the Egyptian Consulate in New York on Monday night as part of his current month-long pastoral visit to the U.S.

Egypt's Consul in New York Hesham el Naqib hosted a gathering for the pope to meet with the Egyptian community in the New York area.

"I am very happy to be at the consulate of our beloved Egypt. I make it a point whenever I visit a country to call on our consulate. We are proud of Egypt. These are not mere words because Egypt is a nation with great history, civilization, geography, national fabric and characteristics," he said.

The spiritual bond between the people of Egypt is deep. The River Nile and the soil have united us. And it is this solid bond that is reflected in one of our most important values, namely our national unity," he added.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is seriously proceeding on the right track for the nation, he said. He recalled his annual visits to the Cathedral on the Coptic Christmas Eve to greet Copts on this occasion.
