CAIRO – 27 September 2018: Mike Evans,chairman of the U.S. President Donald Trump’s Faith Advisory Board, expressed appreciation of the Egyptian efforts under President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in fighting terrorism, said Bassam Radi, the presidency spokesman.
Evans praised during a meeting with the Egyptian president the efforts exerted by the country to link North Africa with the Middle East in combating terrorism, which poses a danger to the whole world.
On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 73) in New York, Evans added that Egypt has become a role model regarding combating extremism and highlighting the values of equality and moderation.
Evans also lauded Egypt’s positive steps toward development, within the framework of its comprehensive economic and social reform program, which meets the Egyptian people’s aspiration in achieving prosperity and progress.
Following a meeting with President Sisi in New York on the sidelines of the UNGA session, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, said Egypt's economy is showing strong signs of recovery, and its economic growth is among the highest in the Middle East.
Sisi addressed several topics during the speech he gave at the session on Tuesday. He urged the establishment of an international body to face terrorism and the entities supporting it. Sisi reviewed the Egyptian experience in dealing with terrorism to aid other states suffering from the heinous phenomenon.
Egypt has suffered from terrorism since the ousting of Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. President Sisi has worked on combating religious terrorism through urging reforming the religious discourse besides military solutions, including a major military operation in Sinai and other parts in the republic, dubbed “Comprehensive Operation – Sinai 2018”
