CAIRO - 24 September 2018: Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawy on Monday reviewed with Senior Strategic Advisor at the UN Development Program (UNDP) Adel Abdel Latif means of promoting cooperation with the Egyptian government in carrying out development projects nationwide.
Sharawy expressed the government's appreciation of the important role played by the UN and its agencies in supporting sustainable development projects across the Egyptian governorates, lauding the UNDP for being one the country's foremost credible partners.
He also hailed the efforts exerted by the UN and its bodies to improve services provided to Egyptian citizens.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed a number of development projects in some governorates, affirming the need for more support to the ministry's local development and decentralization programs and efforts to deal with development challenges such as overpopulation.
He also stressed the importance of developing Upper Egyptian governorates in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Sharawy further asserted the state's commitment to the comprehensive development of Sinai and maximizing the benefits of the peninsula's resources.
For his part, the UNDP senior advisor asserted keenness on enhancing cooperation with the Egyptian government, especially with regard to Sinai development strategy, which is a top priority for the Egyptian state.
