CAIRO – 24 September 2018: A Kidney failure patient named Heba Mohamed Tantawy died Sunday during hemodialysis at Tayseer hospital in Zagazig.
The 38 year-old victim was one of the 12 patients in the kidney dialysis case that took place in Derb Najm hospital on September 15, 2018. In addition, she is the fourth patient to die due to the same incident.
Mohamed al-Kadi, the attorney general of Sharkia’s prosecutors, ordered the autopsy of the body to explain the cause of death.
The Health Directorate of Sharkia previously announced the death of three patients who were undergoing dialysis at Derb Najm Hospital: Fardous Abdullah Ahmed (a housewife, and a resident of Manshir Sahbara village), Sobhy Ali (resident of Sawini villiage), and Salam Mohammed Ibrahim (Hajj Ahmed hamlet).
As a response, Minister of Health Hala Zayed decided to close the dialysis unit at Derb Najm Central Hospital and to launch urgent investigations to know further information concerning the deadly incident. Moreover, Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali decided to allocate LE 10,000 as compensation for every person who died in the horrifying accident.
Investigations are still underway and confirmed results have not been officially declared regarding the medical catastrophe.
