CAIRO – 26 May 2017: Several foreign inspection delegations visited Cairo International Airport to inspect and follow up on security procedures carried out by the Egyptian authorities at the airport concluding a three-day visit.
These visits are scheduled every three months and aim to ensure maximum security and safety, as verified by the European, Canadian, Russian and American inspection delegations.
On Thursday, English and French delegations concluded a three-day visit to the airport with the purpose of following up on security measures applied by the authority for passengers’ safety, luggage and goods, specifically the flights travelling to the United Kingdom and France. The two delegations applied the security procedures including securing passengers from check-in until they reach the terminal. The passengers were frisked, and their luggage was inspected through radiation and hand tools.
Furthermore, the two delegations toured the duty free area to review the procedures for securing containers and parcels before shipping them to the aircraft. In addition, they inspected the procedures for securing in-flight food containers and meals for passengers from the point of leaving the kitchens to arriving at the aircraft.
Members of the two delegations met with security leaders from the police, the Civil Aviation Authority, and Cairo Port Company to review the observations from the visit. The delegations did not give any substantial observations that will cause changes to the safety and security procedures at the airport.
Previously, Russia had suspended its air service with Egypt, following the crash of the Russian airliner over Sinai late October in 2015 that was carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members.
