CAIRO – 24 May 2017: Parliamentarian Tarek el-Khouly called Wednesday for international action against Qatar, after alleged statements attributed to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani over his good relations with Iran and Israel.

Khouly said addressing Arab countries to impose sanctions on Qatar, blaming it over exploiting its media outlets and wealth to “overthrow Arab regimes and finance terrorism.”

"It is time for an international movement against Qatar as it represents a real danger not only regionally, but also globally," the parliamentarian added.

Qatar claimed the website of its state-run news agency was hacked on Wednesday and published a fake story quoting the ruling emir making controversial comments.

The fake story prompted Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to respond by blocking Qatari media, including broadcaster Al-Jazeera.

The hack happened early on Wednesday morning and hours later, the website of Qatar News Agency was not accessible.
