CAIRO – 24 August 2018: The U.S. Senate passed a bill to honour former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, according to a Thursday statement by the Egyptian Embassy in Washington.
“The Anwar Sadat Centennial Celebration Act S266 awards the Congressional Gold Medal to Sadat “in recognition of his historic achievements and courageous contributions to peace in the Middle East,” it added.

In September 2017, the senate hosted a ceremony to rally for the bill on the 100th anniversary of Sadat’s birth and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Camp David Accords.
