CAIRO - 20 August 2018: Egypt's government has set a comprehensive security plan for traffic during Eid El-Adha holiday starting Tuesday, August 21.
Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat announced a "state of emergency" and canceled all vacations for senior officials of the ministry to ensure good traffic during the Eid week. Arafat called on the ministry's senior officials to be highly alert and to be present inside the ministry's headquarters most of the time to follow-up all the updates.
Another plan was set for monitoring inter-governorate roads to reduce accidents. Cairo governorate officials affirmed that they coordinated with other governorates and cities including Giza, Qalioubia, Alexandria, Beheira, Suez and Marsa Matruh to regulate the traffic movement at the entrances and exits of Greater Cairo.
Surveillance cameras have been placed on desert roads and high ways to prevent any congestion and to deal with road accidents in a timely manner, providing travellers with all necessary services.
Cairo Metro, which is considered one of the most convenient and popular means of transportation inside Greater Cairo, also announced a state of alert during Eid to avoid delays.
Cairo is considered the highest governorate in terms of population density. According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) its population is nearly 10 million.
Cairo is considered the center of all governmental buildings and facilities inside the country. People come from all over the country daily either to sign government papers or to seek better job opportunities which guarantee a better social level.
